nARCHITECTS was commissioned by Suffolk County’s Economic Development Corporation to lead a team in the redesign of Violet Cove in Mastic Beach. Channeling Suffolk County’s investment in environmental and social resiliency, our design of a community platform, landscape, and reconstructed living shoreline encourages active engagement with the changing waterfront while mitigating and adapting to coastal flooding.
The community platform will provide spaces for leisure, outdoor learning, picnics, and performances. Some areas of the pavilion will enjoy dappled shade and others will be protected from the rain. A new dock and kayak launch will complement a rebuilt natural shoreline, weaving the project into a larger regional effort to stem increased flooding and erosion.
The pavilion and reconstructed living shoreline are scheduled to begin construction in 2027.
