At the edge of a steep escarpment in Ulster County, New York, we have designed a new private residence that celebrates the landscape and the character of the owners. A unique reflection of its residents, the design of the home balances both privacy and play for their personal retreat. Many details – such as notched patio overhangs and curated sightlines – respond to specific preferences and activities, but what distinguishes the home is its oversized, auto-lift garage which houses a dedicated makerspace and sanctuary for the self-described tinkerers at work.
Maker’s Retreat is currently in construction, and it is expected to be completed in 2027.
